- Thank you for trying out Tawssa. Tawssa takes text files and
- sends them to FirstClass via a gateway. The benifit to this is
- that if you have 1 or more text files that you would like to
- appear in conferences, or addressed to a specific user, or
- Mailing List, you can do it all in one automatic step. You can
- even do it under the control of another program like Microphone
- or with one QuickKey.
-
- I was on the phone the other day with another FC admin and he
- commented that he was trying to get a deal going with a news
- agency so that he could post the news on his board just after
- it aired on TV. The problem was, how to get the news from the
- news room to the FC BBS. Getting it to the BBS machine I felt
- was a job for Microphone and its wonderful scripting
- capabilities. The job of getting it into FirstClass however was
- not in an "Off The Shelf" solution.
-
- Like a fool I said, "I can probably whip up a program to do
- that in a couple of days". I did just that. Then I used it and
- said, "Wait, it needs more features". Time passed and the
- program evolved into what you have here.
-
- Tawssa is the phonetic spelling of the way my wife pronounces
- "Tosser". I thought it was cute, so I kept it. Sue me, I love
- my wife.
-
- Tawssa can be configured to run fully automatically,
- semi-automatically, or completely manually. The concept is that
- you create folders on your hard drive that have the same names
- as Users, Conferences, or Mailing Lists on your system. You
- aquire or write the text files in what ever manner you choose
- and save them in the proper folders. Tawssa will use the name
- of the file as the subject of the message. When Tawssa is
- instructed to do so, it scans these folders for text files.
- When it encounters a text file it "wraps" the file to 80
- columns or less and then builds a gateway file. The gateway is
- then saved in the OutBox folder of the FidoNet Gateway App.
- After all the text files have been processed, you run the
- gateway and toss the mail into your system.
-
- Some of you are now saying something about the FidoNet gateway
- and deciding oh wait this is getting too complicated. Actually
- it is a great system. The FidoNet Gateway has nothing to do
- with FidoNet. It is just a generic mail tosser that expects to
- find files preformatted for FirstClass and act upon them. What
- I did on my system was setup the FidoNet gateway according to
- the instructions, but I made some changes to the procedure. I
- named the Gateway "External Program" and made it unlisted. You
- should also take note here that the FidoNet gateway app was
- written before server 2.5 and you will need an old copy of
- Client 2.0.9 to modify the Gateway Shell Settings file.
-
- The online help has the instructions for use and setting up of
- the folders and such. I suggest you read through all of the
- help as you will not be able to take full advantage of the
- program unless you do.
-
- I created a Microphone script that logs onto a service,
- retrives textural information, logs off, launches Tawssa, and
- quits Microphone all from opening a single document. Since
- Tawssa is configured to run automatically, the entire procress
- of getting information from one system to my News conference
- was one double click of the mouse. Pretty neat, huh?
-
- Let me know if there are any new features you want included.
